Vol. 57. Students Tell Us What They Think 🐒

We’re always excited to receive feedback, which means we’re always asking for it. Throughout the year, we’ve helped classrooms with a wide variety of projects — from podcast creation, to app prototyping, and so much more! This week, we’re showcasing what students thought of the projects we were so fortunate to help with (after all, they’re the people that these projects are for in the first place).

A Podcast to Remember 🎙️

A class of Grade 5 students had the chance to sit down with someone they know who immigrated to Canada and record an interview detailing their immigration journey. After summarising their interview, they developed it into a script, which they then recorded into audio for their podcast. Check out some examples in Volume 46.

How cool is it to see students take something they learned in school and want to apply it to a passion project at home?
🥹 Authentic voice. Authentic audience.

Your Fav Book Reviewer 📚

Instead of a written book review, Grade 6 students created short and catchy videos of themselves reviewing a book they had recently read with hopes to entice someone else to read it. Give it a gander in Volume 40.

Interactive and engaging projects make it slightly less nerve wracking and a bit more fun when it comes to practicing those public speaking skills. It’s even better when students are able to recognize this about themselves on their own!

Brain Power 🧠

After researching different biomes and introducing Grade 4 students to the basics of Canva, we dug a bit deeper into its features to make their biome projects more interactive. The students ended up designing entire apps in the style of interactive displays in museums.

These students got a taste of what software developers actually do when creating prototypes of working apps. How many of us can say we know how to make an app?!

Tenacious as Dragons 🐲

Grade 3 students combined Science, ELA, and Art to create replicas of BC landforms out of homemade playdough for their dragons to explore! The entire project was documented and completed in Seesaw by the students – from the pictures of their playdough landforms to the students’ voice recordings as the dragons. Discover the whole story in Volume 55.

Students are more tenacious than we think, especially when they’re motivated!

Oh, Canada 🇨🇦

A group of Grade 4 students took on the roles of virtual tour guides, educating listeners with podcasts on the culture, languages, and interesting places to visit in the many provinces of Canada. Give one a listen.

What wisdom is this?! What a good life lesson: sometimes it feels so nice to put in the extra effort.

Character Building 🧗

Grade 5 students were tasked to create online profiles for a literary character. They were able to practise their perspective writing to communicate as that character and imagine what they might post online. Read all about in Volume 12.

It’s okay to make misteaks mistakes! That’s often when we learn the most about ourselves. And creating things digitally allows for a lot of easy trial and error — undo button, anyone?

Some Final Feedback 🥰

Students are grateful for the chance to get creative with their learning. And they want to ensure other students around them get the same opportunities!

We count ourselves fortunate to be able to work with so many students across so many grades and schools. We constantly get to see their growth and engagement firsthand, and it keeps us motivated to continue thinking of new ideas for fun projects. And from the sounds of it, the students don’t want us to stop anytime soon!
